Your recycling sorter throws away black plastic it literally cannot see. Carbon black is invisible to it. Carbon black soaks up the near-infrared light standard sorters read by, so a black tray on a black belt reads as nothing and drops to landfill. That is 3 to 15% of the waste stream, lost this way (WP45 research, 2026). Assay reads it in a different light. Mid-wave infrared sees the plastic carbon black hides, and sorts it back out. Watch the switch in the reel. Leave it on and the batch passes grade. Flip it off, same stream, same model, and a trace of PVC slips in and the whole batch fails. The switch is not a smarter model. It holds back the pieces it is not sure about instead of guessing them into your bale.
